WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives in remembrance of the bombing of the United States Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, on October 23, 1983.  The attack claimed the lives of 241 Americans and wounded an additional 128.  Many of the victims were assigned to the 24th Marine Amphibious Unit deployed out of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, which is located in Congressman Jones’ district.

“It is only appropriate that on the thirtieth anniversary of this act of terrorism, we recognize the courageous sacrifice of the individuals who lost their lives,” said Congressman Jones.  “Furthermore, we join with the family and friends of the victims in mourning for their loss.”
