JONES VOTES AGAINST DEBT CEILING INCREASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) issued the following statement regarding his vote against a proposal that would raise the debt ceiling through March 2015 while doing nothing to cut spending:

“Out of control spending is the most pressing issue facing the United States today,” said Congressman Jones.  “The national debt has reached an astonishing $17 trillion, yet we continue to spend money that we do not have and borrow billions of dollars from foreign governments – only to funnel much of that borrowed money back overseas to the war in Afghanistan and other foreign aid projects.  This bill is merely a license for the government to continue the same reckless, unsustainable cycle.  As the only member of Congress to vote against every debt ceiling increase in the last 10 years, I will not stand for a proposal that does nothing to curb wasteful spending.”
